Greenbush - The Education Service Center is seeking applications for School Resource Officer/Paraprofessional.

Job Summary:  This position is a community oriented policing position that involves working with the Greenbush programs as well as liaison duties between the school, community agencies and the Police/Sheriff department. This position performs general duty law enforcement work to protect life and property as well as assists with the day-to-day educational instruction of the program.

 

Qualifications:

Required: 

  1. Active, in good standing, member of the local law enforcement agency.
  2. Immunization certificate current.

Responsibilities: 

Essential Functions:

  1. Protect lives and property for the citizens and the public school students.
  2. To investigate criminal activities committed on or adjacent to school property.
  3. To counsel public school students in special situations, such as students suspected to be engaged in criminal misconduct, when requested by the Program Director or designee or by the parent of the student.
  4. To assist other law enforcement officers with outside investigations concerning students attending the school(s) to which the SRO is assigned.
  5. Serve as a liaison between the school(s), community agencies and the Police and Sheriff’s offices. Disseminate information beneficial to public order and safety.
  6. To inform the students of their rights and responsibilities as lawful citizens.
  7. To participate in campus activities when invited and feasible.
  8. To be aware at all times of the responsibility to improve the image of the uniformed law enforcement officer in the eyes of the students and the community.
  9. Meet with school officials on a regular basis to evaluate the progress of the truancy referral program.
  10. Respond appropriately for truancy related problems in the community and work with the school and families to reduce truancy.
  11. Respond to citizens and merchants regarding complaints about school aged students during the hours of school and perform job.
  12. Adhere to all city/county Police/Sheriff department policies, as well as applicable school policies.
  13. Aids in the planning of learning activities to assist students in gaining knowledge, developing skills, and attaining education goals, as well as compiling reports.

  7. Must complete all assignments in a time-sensitive manner as determined by Supervisor.
  8. Must meet all safety requirements as directed by the Service Center.
  9. Must perform other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director or designee. 

Physical Requirements:

  1. Manages all job duties with mobility, agility, and dexterity.
  2. Requires long periods of sitting and standing.
  3. Ability to lift a maximum of 40 pounds.
  4. Work in a noisy environment with many interruptions.
  5. May require physical restraint of students.
