Greenbush - The Southeast Kansas Education Service Center is seeking applications for a Summer Food Service Program Culinary Assistant in the Greenbush Summer Food Program at Greenbush Main Campus - Girard.

Job Summary:
The Culinary Assistant plays a key role in supporting the culinary activities at Greenbush-The Southeast Kansas Education Service Center (SEKESC). The assistant will work under the direct supervision of the Director of Culinary Operations to assist with recordkeeping, planning, preparation, and execution of the service of meals to students and adult participants in all areas of the campus. The assistant will support and collaborate with other Greenbush programs and personnel, to deliver an optimal experience to both internal and external stakeholders.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
A valid driver’s license is required for employment. REAL ID is required if air travel is necessary to complete job duties.
- Minimum 2-4 years of relevant work experience cooking in a school, restaurant, or camp environment.
- Hospitality-minded with excellent customer service skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Excellent organization, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to consistently take initiative and demonstrate follow-through.
- Flexibility, adaptability, and ability to juggle multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to flex schedule according to event needs, including evenings and weekends.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Preferred:
- Culinary certification or ability to obtain.
- SERVSAFE certification or ability to obtain.
- Experience working in a learning environment, preferably food service.
Essential Functions:
- Assists in maintaining a quality food service operation with high regard for efficiency and effectiveness that relies on data to make informed decisions.
- Ensures that high standards of sanitation, cleanliness, and safety are maintained throughout all kitchen areas at all times.
- Assists with the development of menus, recipes, and techniques for food preparation and presentation which help to ensure a consistently high-quality product.
- Assists in meal preparation at all levels using developed menus and under the direction of the Culinary Director.
- Assist in serving and delivering quality meals to guests.
- Works to minimize food costs and exercise portion control over all items served.
- Assists with preparing, compiling, and maintaining reports as directed, including but not limited to event closing reports for invoice processing.
- Supports the Culinary Director in the facilitation of culinary courses as directed.
- Fosters and maintains positive working relationships with all internal and external stakeholders.
- Adds value to the customer experience through critical thinking, anticipating needs, and offering additional services/support, if appropriate.
- Handles sensitive/confidential information appropriately and in accordance with established guidelines and policies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Regular and predictive attendance in designated work location as determined by the Executive Director or designee.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director or designee.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to transport and carry objects up to 75 pounds.
