Description

Greenbush Virtual Academy is looking for a licensed Science teacher for grades 9-12 to work in a part-time or full-time virtual teaching position. The teacher will facilitate online learning through the Edgenuity software while providing direct instruction via Zoom teleconferencing software on a regular basis as needed. The teacher can fulfill the job duties remotely from home in this position but has the ability to commute into the Lawrence Office for inservice and staff meetings approximately 6 times per year.

 

This position calls for a licensed Science instructor to teach and facilitate a blend of direct instruction via live video and the use of an online curriculum. The position will take place remotely and requires being proficient with technology, online learning tools to engage students during live instruction and having high speed internet access at home. Preference may be given to candidates who have a license to teach chemistry and physics.

Job Summary: Responsible for assisting in the day-to-day management and operation of the Greenbush Virtual Academy (GVA). He/She will assist with the promotion of the program as well as related reports. He/She serves as an educational resource person. Teachers will be assigned a group of students with who they will work in facilitating the online curriculum.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

A valid driver’s license is required for employment. REAL ID is required if air travel is necessary to complete job duties.

  1. Bachelor's degree in Education.
  2. Valid Kansas teaching license at the elementary and/or secondary level
  3. Proficient in verbal and written communication, and principles of supervision, and have above-average computer skills.
  4. Knowledgeable in broad curricular content areas and able to work with students of diverse needs.   

Preferred:

  1. Master’s degree in the field of education.
  2. Minimum two years of teaching experience.
  3. Experience at the secondary or post-secondary level as an academic/career advisor

RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions:

  1. Manage the virtual program on a day-to-day basis under the supervision of program coordinators, which may include enrolling and orienting new students, evaluating transcripts, assisting/tutoring students, monitoring student progress, filing, and answering the telephone.
  2. Maintain student records.
  3. Promote the program locally, such as attending chamber events, meeting with community leaders, and local businesses, and recruiting potential students for the GVA.
  4. Attend regular staff meetings and as schedule allows advisory meetings.
  5. Attend required GVA in-services and demonstrate ongoing professional growth and skill development.
  6. Maintain positive interactions and coordination of services with local school district personnel.
  7. Demonstrates a positive attitude toward all students, staff, and parents by showing respect for the worth and dignity of each student.
  8. Manage and document disciplinary actions, supervision, and counseling sessions with students as necessary/appropriate. Keep program coordinators informed as to problems.
  9. Support the philosophy, mission, and policies of the SEKESC.
  10. Prepare timely reports of students' academic progress throughout the year.
  11. Reliable, and punctual; completes duties promptly, accurately, and according to timelines.
  12. Monitor upkeep of equipment at the site if applicable. Maintain the facility, or assigned area, to keep it clean and safe for students and staff, including light custodial duties when necessary.
  13. Create/provide reports upon request such as count day, end of month, daily attendance, etc.

General Responsibilities:

  4. Maintain strict confidentiality as outlined by FERPA and HIPAA.

  5. Ability to work alone and in groups to provide services.

  6. Maintain professional relationships with families.

  7. Assume responsibility for individual professional growth by staying current with literature, research,

    and/or practices.

  8. Demonstrate proficiency in the ability to effectively and regularly communicate with other employees of the SEKESC and constituents.

  9. Complete all assignments in a timely manner including communication with other staff and families.

  10. Follow all safety requirements as directed by the SEKESC.

  11. Regular and predictive attendance in designated work locations as determined by the Executive Director or designee.

  12. Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or designee. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Lifting up to 40 pounds.

  2. Manage all job duties with mobility, agility, and dexterity.

  3. Sit/stand for long periods of time.

  4. Work in loud/stressful environments.

  5. Ability to drive in varying weather and geographical conditions.

  6. Being exposed to infectious and contagious diseases.

  7. Being exposed to hazardous materials.

  8. Being exposed to work settings that offer a risk to personal security and that are not ADA compliant.
