Greenbush - The Southeast Kansas Education Service Center is seeking applications for a Paraprofessional at Project Alternative in McCune, KS.

Job Summary:  Assist teachers and students with improving student achievement in a variety of school settings.

 

Qualifications:   

  Required: 

  1. Minimum of high school diploma or certificate of equivalency.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
  3. Valid driver’s license.
  4. Current on health immunizations.

Preferred:

  1. Associates degree.
  2. Prior experience in special education, behavior management, and data collection helpful.

Responsibilities: 

Essential Functions:

  1. Reviews, reinforces and remediates skills previously addressed by a classroom teacher in individual or small group settings for the purpose of facilitating student achievement.
  2. Demonstrates knowledge of core curriculum for the purpose of effectively assisting in facilitating student achievement.
  3. Reinforces and supports student academic and behavioral plans when defined by the certified teacher for the purpose of developing students’ basic social/interpersonal/academic skills.
  4. Facilitate student social integration and increase independence in school while helping student to decrease maladaptive and dependent behaviors that prevent the student from developing to full potential.
  5. Assists classroom teacher with the preparation of instructional materials for the purpose of providing necessary materials to enhance learning activities.
  6. Provides instruction to students utilizing a variety of individual and small group activities under the direction of a teacher or professional staff for the purpose of facilitating student achievement.
  7. Responds to emergencies (i.e. injured student, fights, etc) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
  8. Monitors individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.
  9. Understands and utilizes educational technologies, as appropriate, with students under the direction of a teacher for the purpose of facilitating student learning.
  10. Performs record keeping and clerical functions for the purpose of supporting the teacher, assigned certified staff, and/or administrative personnel.

General Responsibilities:

  1. Must support the Service Center mission, goals, and objectives
  2. Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills
  3. Must maintain strict confidentiality
  4. Must demonstrate proficiency in ability to produce excellent work as requested by the executive team
  5. Must assume responsibility for individual professional growth by staying current with literature, research, and/or practices
  6. Must demonstrate proficiency in ability to effectively and regularly communicate with Service Center employees and constituents
  7. Must complete all assignments in a time-sensitive manner as determined by Supervisor
  8. Must meet all safety requirements as directed by the Service Center
  9. Must perform other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director or designee 

Physical Requirements:

  1. Manages all job duties with mobility, agility, and dexterity.
  2. Requires prolonged sitting and standing.
  3. Ability to lift a maximum of 40 pounds.
  4. Work in a noisy environment with many interruptions
  5. Various locations require annual TB tests.
  6. May be exposed to Hepatitis B and/or other communicable diseases.
  7. Occasional lifting of students up to 1/3 of your body weight or a maximum of 40 lbs., and assisting with lifting of student over 40 lbs.
  8. Occasional physical management and lifting of students as part of behavior management procedures.
  9. Occasional physical escorting of student requiring hands-on physical assistance, for a maximum of 200 yds

In addition to the benefit package, Greenbush recognizes the importance of continued education throughout an employee’s career and offers the Greenbush Education Reimbursement Plan to support employees in their education endeavors. The plan provides an opportunity for any Greenbush employee working at least 1,004 hours per year to be reimbursed up to $1200 per contract year for tuition costs. Employees of Greenbush meeting the hour requirement can apply to participate in the program by completing the Tuition Reimbursement Application Form.
