Greenbush - The Southeast Kansas Education Service Center is seeking applications for a Program Director/Building Administrator at Project Alternative in McCune, KS. 

 

Anticipated start date: August 1, 2020. Position will remain open until filled. Equal Opportunity Employer.

 

Job Summary: Provide the efficient and responsible supervision, evaluation, and improvement of the instructional program, consistent with the policies established by the Board. Provide for the effective and responsible communication with staff, students, guardians, district and facility patrons. Foster staff initiative and positive rapport. This position is primarily responsible for affecting a climate in which the curriculum can be facilitated for the purpose of providing the students with an exemplary and comprehensive instructional program.

 

Qualifications:  

  Required: 

  1. Minimum of Master’s degree in education, curriculum, or related educational field.
  2. Valid State of Kansas administrative license.
  3. Minimum of 3 years teaching experience.
  4. Valid driver’s license.
  5. Knowledgeable of State, local and Federal regulations that apply to students and education.
  6. Current on health immunizations.

Preferred:

  1. Special education degree.
  2. Prior experience in special education, behavior management, and data collection.

Responsibilities: 

Essential Functions:

  1. Organize, schedule, and maintain a comprehensive instructional program providing for the varying needs, abilities, and interests of students.
  2. Facilitate site-based decision-making.
  3. Supervise the instructional programs, evaluating lesson plans, and observing classes on a regular basis to encourage the use of a variety of instructional strategies and materials consistent with research on learning and child growth and development.
  4. Assist in the selection and mentoring of staff.
  5. Research and collect data regarding the needs of students, and other pertinent information. Use assessment and other data to create optimal learning opportunities for all students.
  6. Notify the appropriate personnel and agencies when there is evidence of substance abuse, child abuse, child neglect, severe medical or social conditions, potential suicide or students appearing to be under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances.
  7. Keep staff informed and seek ideas for the improvement of the program.
  8. Employ approved verbal and physical intervention techniques when the student becomes a danger to self or others.
  9. Facilitate staff meetings, committee meetings, and other groups to enhance program effectiveness.
  10. Maintain high standards of student conduct, enforce discipline in a fair and consistent manner.
  11. Supervise the preparation and maintenance of student records
  12. Ensure a safe and healthful learning environment.
  13. Plan and assume responsibility for safety drills consistent with state, local and District regulations and policies. Train staff in emergency situations.
  14. Serve as a role model for students, dressing professionally, demonstrating the importance and relevance of learning, accepting responsibility, and demonstrating pride in the education profession.
  15. Communicate regularly with parents, seeking their support and advice, so as to create a cooperative relationship.
  16. Use excellent written and oral communication skills.

General Responsibilities:

  1. Must support the Service Center mission, goals, and objectives
  2. Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills
  3. Must maintain strict confidentiality
  4. Must demonstrate proficiency in ability to produce excellent work as requested by the executive team
  5. Must assume responsibility for individual professional growth by staying current with literature, research, and/or practices
  6. Must demonstrate proficiency in ability to effectively and regularly communicate with Service Center employees and constituents
  7. Must complete all assignments in a time-sensitive manner as determined by Supervisor
  8. Must meet all safety requirements as directed by the Service Center
  9. Must perform other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director or designee

Physical Requirements:

  1. Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
  2. Manages all job duties with mobility, agility, and dexterity
  3. Occasional lifting of students up to 1/3 of your body weight or a maximum of 40 lbs., and assisting with lifting of student over 40 lbs.
  4. Occasional physical management and lifting of students as part of behavior management procedures.
  5. Occasional physical escorting of student requiring hands-on physical assistance, for a maximum of 200 yds.
  6. Frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, turning, and reaching.
  7. May work in noisy or crowded environment.
  8. May be exposed to Hepatitis B and/or other communicable diseases.

The plan provides an opportunity for any Greenbush employee working at least 1,004 hours per year to be reimbursed up to $1200 per contract year for tuition costs. Employees of Greenbush meeting the hour requirement can apply to participate in the program by completing the Tuition Reimbursement Application Form.
