Greenbush - The Southeast Kansas Education Service Center is seeking applications for a Special Education Supports Consultant.

 

Anticipated start date: July 1, 2020. Position will remain open until filled. Equal Opportunity Employer.

 

Job Summary: The Special Education Supports Consultant will provide on-site and virtual coaching, technical assistance, and professional learning. The Special Education Supports Consultant is charged with
improving practices in ways that increase the knowledge and expertise of special education staff, leading to improved services for special education students.

 

Qualifications:

Required:
1. Master’s Degree in Special Education, Psychology, or related field of study
2. Current and valid Kansas license/certification.
3. Minimum of five years experience in K-12 special education
4. Thorough knowledge of Special Education law
5. In-depth awareness of the needs, roles, and responsibilities of special education administrators, related service providers, teachers, and paraeducators
6. Valid driver’s license

 

Preferred:
1. Experience providing coaching, professional development, and technical assistance to peer and non-peer audiences
2. Experience in implementing and evaluating effective curriculum design, instructional strategies, and use of assessments
3. Solid understanding of the Multi-tiered System of Supports (MTSS) Framework, Alignment, and Structure for academic and social and emotional learning (SEL)
4. Multiple years of experience serving in a variety of roles within the field of Special Education
5. Current School Leadership license

 

Responsibilities:
Essential Functions:
1. Coordinate and collaborate with diverse groups of professionals across multiple departments and organizations
2. Demonstrate proficient multi-tasking, time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills
3. Promote evidence-based best practices in implementing positive behavior intervention supports
4. Articulate specific tiered interventions to meet the needs of all learners
5. Coach staff to utilize instructional practices that promote supportive learning environments and build social and emotional skills
6. Utilize knowledge of adult learning styles and best practices for coaching and providing feedback
7. Develop respectful professional relationships, building trust with teachers and colleagues
8. Provide timely responses to requests for technical assistance
9. Display cultural competency and the ability to navigate and promote sensitivity with issues of equity
10. Exhibit passion and urgency for the critical role of special education supports, providers, and recipients
11. Communicate and work effectively and constructively with member districts and service center staff

 

General Responsibilities:
1. Must support the Southeast Kansas Education Service Center (SEKESC) mission, goals, and objectives.
2. Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills.
3. Must maintain strict confidentiality.
4. Must demonstrate proficiency in the ability to produce excellent work as requested by the executive team.
5. Must assume responsibility for individual professional growth by staying current with literature, research, and evidence-based practices.
6. Must demonstrate proficiency in the ability to effectively and regularly communicate with SEKESC employees and constituents.
7. Must complete all assignments in a time-sensitive manner as determined by Supervisor.
8. Must meet all safety requirements as directed by the Service Center.
9. Must perform other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director or designee.

 

Physical Requirements:
1. Must occasionally work in noisy and crowded environments with numerous interruptions.
2. Manages all job duties with mobility, agility, and dexterity.
3. Requires long periods of walking, sitting and standing.
4. Ability to lift a maximum of 40 pounds.
5. Various locations require annual TB tests.
6. May be exposed to Hepatitis B and/or other communicable diseases.
7. Must travel frequently in a personal car or SEKESC vehicle.

In addition to the benefit package, Greenbush recognizes the importance of continued education throughout an employee’s career and offers the Greenbush Education Reimbursement Plan to support employees in their education endeavors. The plan provides an opportunity for any Greenbush employee working at least 1,004 hours per year to be reimbursed up to $1200 per contract year for tuition costs. Employees of Greenbush meeting the hour requirement can apply to participate in the program by completing the Tuition Reimbursement Application Form. In addition, Greenbush offers a Professional License Reimbursement Program, which provides full reimbursement for professional licenses with specific Kansas licensing authorities and other appropriate authorities (a complete list can be provided upon request).
