Greenbush - The Southeast Kansas Education Service Center is seeking applications for a Migrant Out-of-School Youth/K-12 Advocate in Southeast Kansas. This is a part time position.

 

Anticipated start date: January 1, 2020. Position will remain open until filled. Equal Opportunity Employer.

 

Job Summary: By recognizing the demand of the migrant lifestyle, the advocate works with the youth to set and achieve educational, work and personal goals. This position works with the Migrant Education Program recruiters, local education agencies and community agencies and organizations to design a program for the individual youth that leads to continued education. This position is part of a team of advocates positioned across the state of Kansas to provide services to students and will be located in Southeast Kansas region. This position requires extensive regional and in-state travel and requires working in varied locations including homes, schools, community sites, workplaces, and agribusiness work areas.

 

Qualifications:
Required:
1. High School Diploma is required. Fluency in oral and written Spanish.
2. Proficient in basic technology applications including Microsoft Office & G Suite.
3. Experience in language acquisition instructional methods and development of instructional materials
4. Valid driver’s license
5. Flexibility and cultural competence
6. Excellent organizational and communications skills

 

Preferred:
1. Bachelors Degree in education, communications, social service or related field

 

Responsibilities:
Essential Functions:
1. Provide program and service information to school personnel, eligible youth and families regarding the program at locations
convenient to the youth.
2. Assist in development of Individualized Student Service Plan for K-12 students.
3. Provide instructional and advocacy supports to K-12 and OSY students.
4. Enroll youth and determine individual plan for educational and other related services.
5. Support youth in acquiring their educational, work or personal goals.
6. Work with the Coordinator to link community resources and youth.
7. Serve as a liaison between school personnel and families to support student success.
8. Support instruction on location with materials, technical assistance and necessary resources.
9. Maintain accurate data and demographics on each student and services provided in a timely and efficient manner.
10. Participate in appropriate community activities to ensure integration of OSY project in communities where OSY are located.
11. Monitor K-12 student progress and provide OSY instructional supports in ESL, Math, Reading, GED & Life Skills.

constituents
7. Must complete all assignments in a time-sensitive manner as determined by Supervisor
8. Must meet all safety requirements as directed by the Service Center
9. Must perform other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director or designee

 

Physical Requirements:
1. Manages all job duties with mobility, agility, and dexterity.
2. Requires long periods of sitting or standing.
3. Ability to lift a maximum of 40 pounds.
4. Work in a noisy environment with many interruptions.
5. Extensive regional and in-state travel required.
