Description

Greenbush - The Southeast Kansas Education Service Center is seeking applications for a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant in Topeka. 

 

Anticipated start date: August 1, 2019. Position will remain open until filled. Equal Opportunity Employer.

 

Job Summary:  The COTA provides unique therapeutic services to enhance the goals and objectives of eligible students.  The COTA is primarily responsible for implementing the therapeutic program prescribed by the occupational therapist.

 

Qualifications:

  1. Valid Kansas Licensure as a COTA from the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts.
  2. Associates Degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant (minimum) from a school accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association.
  3. Ability to read, write and communicate in English to understand directions and communicate with students.
  4. Experience working with students with special needs, preferred.
  5. Ability to physically move about the building.
  6. Ability to lift and position students (30 - 80 pounds) if assigned to a classroom with such requirements.
  7. Ability to make minor decisions with minimal supervision in accordance with established procedures.

Responsibilities:

    Essential Functions:  

  1. Promote independence in activities of daily living (including dressing and feeding) through problem solving, suggesting adaptations and observation of the student.
  2. Observe, problem solve and suggest positioning techniques to enhance educational participation and maximize function.
  3. Consult and assist classroom staff through gathering and sharing information at team meetings when requested.
  4. Discuss and exchange information about the students assigned with the occupational therapist.
  5. Utilize task analysis to suggest techniques to the educational team with regard to feeding, activities of daily living, pre-writing, pre-cutting and other skills needed for school performance.
  6. Implement the individualized/small group therapeutic program prescribed by the occupational therapist based on goals and objectives.
  7. Collaborate with colleagues and parents in order to share information and expertise to plan and implement effective student programs.
  8. Assist occupational therapist in determining extent to which goals and objectives are being met by collecting and maintaining data on individual student goals. 
  9. Assist therapist in formulating new goals based on data analysis.
  10. Monitor student positioning and gross/fine motor activities as guided by the certified professional.
  11. Equipment management, distribution, and maintenance specific for motor support.

    General Responsibilities:

  1. Assume appropriate roles as adult model, behavior manager and educator.
  2. Must support Southeast Kansas Education Service Center (SEKESC) mission, goals, and objectives.
  3. Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate with others.
  4. Must maintain strict confidentiality.
  5. Must demonstrate proficiency in the ability to produce excellent work as requested.
  6. Must assume responsibility for individual professional growth by staying current with literature, research, and/or practices.
  7. Must complete all assignments in a time-sensitive manner.
  8. Must meet all safety requirements as directed by SEKESC.
  9. Must perform other duties as may be assigned.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Manages all job duties with mobility, agility, and dexterity.
  2. Requires long periods of sitting or standing.
  3. Occasional lifting up to 40 pounds.
  4. Must be able to drive to and from work sites.

In addition to the benefit package, Greenbush recognizes the importance of continued education throughout an employee’s career and offers the Greenbush Education Reimbursement Plan to support employees in their education endeavors. The plan provides an opportunity for any Greenbush employee working at least 1,004 hours per year to be reimbursed up to $1200 per contract year for tuition costs.
