Are you a dedicated educator looking to make a difference in the lives of students? Greenbush - The Southeast Kansas Education Service Center is seeking applicants for a Secondary Teacher, preferaby with a science endorsement, to work in an alternative learning program located at the Fairfax Learning Center, Kansas City, KS. The teacher will create a positive learning environment to facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of students. Must have a current Kansas teaching license, secondary. Preferably with a secondary science endorsement.

Job Summary:  Responsible for assisting the Site Coordinator in the day-to-day management of the Virtual Learning Center (VLC). He/She will assist with promotion of program as well as related reports. He/She serves as an educational resource person.

 

Qualifications:

  Required: 

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Education
  2. Valid Kansas teaching license.
  3. Proficient in verbal and written communication, principles of supervision and have above average computer skills.
  4. Knowledgeable in broad curricular content areas and be able to work with students of diverse needs.
  5. Valid driver’s license.

Preferred:

  1. Master’s degree in the field of education.
  2. Valid Kansas teaching license at the secondary level.
  3. Minimum two years teaching experience.
  4. Experience at the secondary or post-secondary level as an academic/career advisor.

Responsibilities: 

Essential Functions:

  1. Manage the virtual program on a day to day basis under the supervision of the site coordinator, which may include enroll and orient new students, evaluate transcripts, assist/tutor students, monitoring student progress, filing, and answer telephone.
  2. Maintain student records.
  3. Promote the program locally, such as attend chamber events, meet with community leaders, and local businesses, and recruit potential students for the VLC.
  4. Attend regular staff meetings and as schedule allows advisory meetings.
  5. Attend required VLC inservices.
  6. Maintain positive interactions and coordination of services with local school district personnel.
  7. Demonstrates a positive attitude toward all students, staff, and parents by showing respect for the worth and dignity of each student.
  8. Manage and document disciplinary actions, supervision and counseling sessions with students as necessary/appropriate. Keep Site Coordinator informed as to problems.
  9. Support the philosophy, mission, and policies of the SEKESC.
  10. Prepare timely reports of students’ academic progress throughout the year.
  11. Reliable, punctual; completes duties promptly, accurately, and according to time lines.
  12. Monitor upkeep of equipment at the site.
  13. Maintain the facility, or assigned area, to keep it clean and safe fr students and staff, including light custodial duties when necessary.
  14. Create/provide reports upon request such as count day, end of month, daily attendance, student data base, advisory board minutes, etc.
  15. Demonstrates ongoing professional growth and skill development.

  3. Must maintain strict confidentiality
  4. Must demonstrate proficiency in ability to produce excellent work as requested by the executive team
  5. Must assume responsibility for individual professional growth by staying current with literature, research, and/or practices
  6. Must demonstrate proficiency in ability to effectively and regularly communicate with Service Center employees and constituents
  7. Must complete all assignments in a time-sensitive manner as determined by Supervisor
  8. Must meet all safety requirements as directed by the Service Center
  9. Must perform other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director or designee 

Physical Requirements:

  1. Manages all job duties with mobility, agility, and dexterity.
  2. Requires long periods of sitting or standing.
  3. Ability to lift a maximum of 40 pounds.
  4. Work in a noisy environment with many interruptions.
  5. Occasional in-state travel.
