Greenbush-The Southeast Kansas Education Service Center is seeking applications for a Special Education Substitute Teacher in McCune, KS

Job Summary: To create a positive learning environment to facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of students in the absence of the regular teacher. In order to respond to the individual needs and abilities of students, the substitute teacher must work closely with other Greenbush staff.

Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelor’s degree within related field.
Current Kansas Teaching Certificate or valid Substitute license.
Current Health certificate on file.

Preferred:
Master’s degree within related field.

Responsibilities:
Essential Functions:
Implement effective lessons in the absence of the regular Classroom Instructor.
Motivate students through effective communications and evaluative responses.
Demonstrate awareness of the needs of students and provide for individual differences.
Set high expectations for student achievement and behavior.
Establish and maintain a positive climate for learning through appropriate classroom management.
Demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships with others.
Facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of students.
Maintain confidentiality as defined by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
Observe Service Center policies during all activities.

General Responsibilities:
Must support the Service Center mission, goals, and objectives.
Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills.
Must maintain strict confidentiality.
Must demonstrate proficiency in ability to produce excellent work as requested by the executive team.
Must assume responsibility for individual professional growth by staying current with literature, research, and/or practices.
Must demonstrate proficiency in ability to effectively and regularly communicate with Service Center employees and constituents.
Must complete all assignments in a time-sensitive manner as determined by Supervisor.
Must meet all safety requirements as directed by the Service Center.
Must perform other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director or designee.

Physical Requirements:
Manages all job duties with mobility, agility, and dexterity.
Requires prolonged sitting and standing.
Ability to lift a maximum of 40 pounds.
Work in a noisy environment with many interruptions.
May be exposed to Hepatitis B and/or other communicable diseases.
Occasional lifting of students up to 1/3 of your body weight or a maximum of 40 lbs., and assisting with lifting of student over 40 lbs.
Occasional physical management and lifting of students as part of behavior management procedures.
Occasional physical escorting of student requiring hands-on physical assistance, for a maximum of 200 yds.

In addition to the benefit package, Greenbush recognizes the importance of continued education throughout an employee’s career and offers the Greenbush Education Reimbursement Plan to support employees in their education endeavors. The plan provides an opportunity for any Greenbush employee working at least 1,004 hours per year to be reimbursed up to $1200 per contract year for tuition costs.
