JOB TITLE:    Migrant Education Program
                     Instructional Specialist and Advocate

 

LOCATION: Advocates will be located in south central Kansas and based in Wichita and Topeka.

QUALIFICATIONS:    

Required:

  • Bachelors Degree in education with current license
  • Fluency in oral and written Spanish and English
  • Proficient in basic technology applications including Microsoft Office
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Flexibility and cultural competence
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills are required

 

Preferred:

  • ESOL endorsement
  • Experience in language acquisition instructional methods and development of instructional materials

SUMMARY OF JOB:

The (Out-of-School Youth) OSY/K-12 Advocacy Program is a statewide effort to provide opportunities for underserved Migrant students to continue educational progress and stay on track to graduation. Advocates provide instructional and support services to meet the unique needs of students who qualify for services through the Migrant Education Program. By recognizing the demand of student’s migrant lifestyle, the advocate works with youth, families, schools, and community supports to set and achieve educational, work and personal goals.

 

This position works with the Migrant Education Program recruiters, local education agencies and community agencies and organizations to design and implement an individualized plan for eligible Migrant students. This position is part of a team of advocates positioned across the state of Kansas to provide services to students and recruit eligbile famlies. The location in south central Kansas. Extensive regional and in-state travel is required and work will be carried out in a variety of settings, including but not limited to homes, schools, community sites, workplaces, and agribusiness work areas.

 

REPORTS TO: Migrant Services Team Leader

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Essential Functions:

  • Provide program and service information to school personnel and eligible youth and families
  • Development of individualized student profiles, goal setting, and plans
  • Provide instructional and advocacy supports for Migrant eligible students
  • Identify community resources and partnerships to meet student and family needs
  • Design and develop instructional materials and resources for implementation across the program
  • Serve as a liaison between school personnel and families to support student success
  • Support instruction on location with materials, technical assistance and necessary resources
  • Provide tutoring for K-12 students in school setting
  • Monitor student progress and maintain accurate data in a timely and efficient manner
  • Will assist in ID&R of families in special projects
